18th Annual Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Awards

The Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference, Inc. (VSNC) is proud to announce the winners of the 18th Annual Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Awards who were recognized and honored during the conference held on September 22-23, 2017 at the Richmond Short Pump Hotel in Glen Allen, Virginia.

The following groups and individuals were the recipients of the 2017 VSNC awards, as follows:

Project of the Year

  • 1st place – Olde Huntersville Civic League - Neighborhood Strategic Plan (Norfolk, VA)
  • 2nd place – Aberdeen Gardens Historical & Civic Association (Hampton, VA)
  • 3rd place – Cardinal Village Mural (Danville, VA)

Advocate of the Year

  • 1st place – Tim Taylor (Roanoke VA)
  • 2nd place – Matias Alvarez Rodriguez (Centreville, VA)
  • 3rd place - Alex Norwood (Hampton, VA)

Youth Individual Effort of the Year

  • 1st place – Gianni Graham, (Norfolk, VA)
  • 2nd place – Ayanna Henderson (Danville, VA)
  • 3rd place - Josaph Boku (Alexandria, VA)

Youth Group Effort of the year

  • 1st place - Neighborhood Development Executive Interns 2017 Generational Changers Summit (Norfolk, VA)
  • 2nd place - Cardinal Village Closet of Hope (Danville, VA)

The annual Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference Neighborhood Awards Program recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding neighborhood organizations and civic individuals from across Virginia who work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life in their communities. These awards have been presented since 2000 as a collective “thank you” to the nominated neighborhoods and individuals and are the only statewide neighborhood awards given on an ongoing basis to neighborhood organizations and individuals to recognize and honor them for undertaking their neighborhood self-help initiatives.
